Jiang-Rong Cao

Frank (Jiang-Rong Cao) graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in August 2004.

Currently, he is a research staff member in Canon Development Americas, Inc. (an R&D subsidiary of Canon, located in Irvine, California). You can still reach him through his permanent USC email account jiangroc@usc.edu .

In MPDG, Frank was mainly working on the fabrication and device characterization of photonic crystal microcavity lasers. The major objective of his Ph.D. research was the design and fabrication of photonic crystal lasers, laser arrays, and the integration of photonic crystal devices.

He received his B.S. degree in Physics from Fudan University in 1998. Then he spent one year as a graduate student in the research group of Prof. X. Y. Ho in the Surface Physics Lab at Fudan University. In 1999, he transferred to the department of Physics & Astronomy at USC , where he obtained an M.A. degree. Since the summer of 2000, he has been doing research as part of the MicroPhotonic Devices Group , in the Department of Electrical Engineering in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering .
