Characterization

In the process of characterizing planar photonic devices, I have come up with several tools and accessories to make my job of characterizing devices easier.

The characterization setup utilizes Newport Corporation's 561/562 series ULTRAlign Precision Fiber Optic Linear Stages.  Here is a list of the accessories I've developed for these stages.  These accessories all attach to a 561-UM universal module for mounting to the 561/562 stage rail.

Planar Device Mount - This mount allows the user to easily insert a thin planar device into the optic axis for testing.  Devices as short as 250 microns along the optical axis have been mounted with this system
Fiber Tipping Aparatus - This is an improvement to the Newport 561-FC fiber chuck holder.  It allows the fiber chuck to be angled up or down in order to vary the incident angle to the device.

If you are interested in more information about these accessories for the Newport ULTRAlign stages, please email me.
